CELPIP General LS — Common Questions

Who needs to take CELPIP General LS?
CELPIP General LS is mainly used for Canadian citizenship applications (for applicants aged 18–54 who need to prove their language ability to IRCC). It is not accepted for Express Entry, permanent residency, or Provincial Nominee Programmes (PNPs) — those require the full CELPIP General test, which also assesses Reading and Writing. Check with IRCC or your immigration consultant to confirm which test your application requires.
How is CELPIP General LS different from CELPIP General?
CELPIP General LS tests only two skills (Listening and Speaking), while CELPIP General tests all four (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking). The Listening and Speaking components themselves are identical in both versions — CELPIP General LS simply omits Reading and Writing, making it shorter and less expensive.
Is the Listening test the same in CELPIP General and CELPIP General LS?
Yes. The Listening component is identical in both CELPIP General and CELPIP General LS. You can use the same practice materials for both versions.
Is the Speaking test the same in CELPIP General and CELPIP General LS?
Yes. CELPIP General LS uses the same 8-task Speaking format as CELPIP General — there is no separate, shorter Speaking format for the LS version. You can use the same Speaking simulator for both.
