Understanding IELTS Band Scores
IELTS uses a band score from 1 to 9. Most universities and immigration programmes require a band between 6.0 and 7.5.

What is the difference between IELTS Academic and General Training?▼
IELTS Academic is for university admission and skilled professional immigration. Writing Task 1 requires you to describe a graph, chart, or diagram. IELTS General Training is for secondary education, work experience, and general migration. Writing Task 1 requires you to write a formal or informal letter.
Which IELTS test do I need for Canadian immigration?▼
For Canadian Express Entry (Federal Skilled Worker), you can use either Academic or General Training — both are accepted. General Training is typically used for migration purposes. The minimum requirement is usually CLB 7 equivalent (IELTS Band 6.0 per skill).
How is the IELTS overall band score calculated?▼
The overall band score is the average of your four individual skill scores (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking), rounded to the nearest 0.5.
