IELTS General Training Mock Test โ Common Questions
How is IELTS General Training different from IELTS Academic?
The two versions share identical Listening and Speaking sections, so those parts of a GT mock feel exactly like the Academic ones. The difference is in Reading and Writing: GT Reading uses everyday and workplace texts such as notices, advertisements, staff handbooks, and short articles instead of dense academic passages, and GT Writing Task 1 asks you to write a letter (formal, semi-formal, or informal) rather than describe a chart or diagram. Writing Task 2 is an essay in both versions.
How long does a full IELTS General Training mock test take?
A complete GT mock runs about the same length as the real exam โ roughly 2 hours and 45 minutes for the written sections. That breaks down to about 30 minutes of Listening, 60 minutes of Reading, and 60 minutes of Writing, with the Speaking interview adding another 11 to 14 minutes. On Bandleep you can do all four skills back-to-back in one sitting or take short breaks between them.
Is the IELTS General Training mock test free?
Single-skill practice โ for example just a GT Reading set or one Writing letter task โ is free to use as a warm-up. The full four-skill mock test in one combined sitting is free too, and delivers a full timed simulation plus a combined band estimate and detailed AI feedback across every section.
How is my IELTS General Training mock test scored?
Listening and Reading are marked automatically against an answer key and converted to a band using the standard raw-score-to-band scale. Writing and Speaking are scored by AI against the official IELTS assessment criteria โ Task Achievement/Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy for Writing, and Fluency, Vocabulary, Grammar, and Pronunciation for Speaking. You get a band for each skill plus an overall combined estimate.
Are the band scores real IELTS scores?
No. Every band you see is a Bandleep practice estimate designed to show you roughly where you stand and where to improve. It is not an official IELTS score and cannot be used for any application. For a certified result you must sit the real test with an authorised test centre, but a practice estimate is a reliable way to gauge readiness beforehand.
Who should take the IELTS General Training test?
General Training is aimed at people applying for migration to countries like Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as those seeking work or work experience abroad and some non-degree training or secondary programs. If your goal is university or professional registration, you usually need IELTS Academic instead โ so check the exact requirement set by your institution or immigration authority before choosing.
